Christian Ministries’ Food Pantry
St Andrew Presbyterian Church is one of the area churches that contribute to the Food Pantry under the auspices of Christian Ministries of Delaware County. Food is collected in a “food cart” in the Narthex and cash is donated for needed items. The church can be proud of the efforts made by the congregation to meet so many of the community needs. The help and support of each member who donated food items, cash, and those who delivered the items to Christian Ministries is appreciated. St Andrew Presbyterian is truly a caring church.
Rebuilding Together of Delaware County
St Andrew Church is proud to be a supporter of this private, not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to help homeowners who cannot afford private contractors and who fall outside of the eligibility rules for other social service organizations. Eligibility is based on inability to maintain homes by their own efforts due to age or infirmity. It is funded by donations and operated by volunteers. This organization’s aim is to help others maintain a safe life in their own homes and to encourage them in routine maintenance procedures, thus promoting good family living and enhancing neighborhoods. VHMP has received 501c(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions are tax deductible.
This fund and activities are an important mission of our church. Through our deacons, this fund enables St Andrew to help many individuals with emergencies that happen to them. The money for this fund is raised through individual donations, special offerings, the Christmas Post Office and bake sales throughout the year. Our emergency fund often combines efforts with Christian Ministries, Salvation Army, The Better Way and Family Services.
Each November, St Andrew fills and delivers 24 Thanksgiving baskets. We are furnished the names of the families by the Salvation Army. Members donate food to fill the baskets. Monetary donations are used to buy turkeys and extra items needed to complete the baskets. Each basket is delivered by a caring team of drivers. Again, St Andrew is a community presence when assistance is needed, especially in the time of financial strife.
Fifty sack meals are packaged one day each month by different Sunday school classes, circles, and other groups from St Andrew Presbyterian Church for persons who eat lunch at the Harvest Soup Kitchen. The lunches are served Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. without charge in the former St Lawrence Catholic School located at 9203 East Charles Street. The complimentary sack meals are then given to the lunch guests as they depart so they may take them with for their evening meal. Donations by the St Andrew Benevolence Fund and contributions by church members cover the expense for the lunches that are delivered to the Harvest Soup Kitchen. A church member then delivers the sack lunches on a monthly basis.
